About pulp refining

Pulp refining is nothing but treating the pulp mechanically, in order to modify its physical properties. In other words, it is a process of refining the paper pulp so that the desired binding and structural properties can be imparted into the fibers that make the desired paper. 

When the pulp undergoes refining, it is subjected to robust shear forces. This results in compressive and tensile forces on the fibers that cause the formation of fibrils on the fiber surface. As a result of this process, there is an increase in the bonding strength, surface area, and porosity of the fiber as well as the paper. 

How Pulp Refining is Done Using a Disk Refiner?
