Comprehending The Surface Strength Using Paper Testing Waxes

When it comes to knowing about a paper’s surface strength, paper-testing wax sticks find a significant application. These wax sticks are specially designed for paper manufacturers, printers, lithographers, and the research and development departments to evaluate surface strength.

What’s the surface strength of a paper?

Surface strength is a significant parameter of testing paper coating. It relates to the forces that printing creates. Precisely, it describes the strength between the coated surface of the paper board and printing inks, films, or varnishes.

The surface of the paper is expected to resist the lifting forces caused due to the printing speed and the viscosity of inks, films, and varnishes. When it comes to measuring how effectively coatings bond with the surface of the paperboard, multiple methods are used. These methods combine different inks or waxes to simulate the lifting forces, similar to printing. The results obtained are based on the type of method being incorporated for the objective.

There are a number of factors that affect the surface strength of the paper. What requires high attention is both the delamination strength of the paperboard’s inner side and the coating strength and its bond with the board.

How to measure the surface strength?

Paper testing wax sticks are majorly used to test this parameter with the desired accuracy. These sticks are available in sets. Each stick is composed of hard resin, made of non-oily wax, and comes with a high degree of adhesion. Moreover, they come with a numerical code with which they are identified.

UEC’s set of testing waxes can be used by paper manufacturers, lithographers, printers, and the inspection and control department. Each box consists of eight wax sticks of a specific numerical value from the following series:

2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A, 9A, 10A, 11A, 12A, 13A, 14A, 16A, 18A,2 0A, 23A.

Additionally

UEC houses many valuable and accuracy-driven surface coating and printability testing instruments. Paper texting wax sticks, a wire bar coater, a printability tester, and a fluff tester are a few of them. To know more about these machines, hop on to the official website.
