Kickstarting Your Tissue Paper Manufacturing Business

Those who are aspiring to start their tissue paper manufacturing business must give the next 5-7 minutes to read the following article.

Tissue paper, as you might be knowing, is a lightweight paper made from paper pulp, a recycled lignocellulose fibrous material. It finds a place in a number of applications, due to its characteristics like hygiene, small size, absorbency, brightness, comfort, stretch, and weight. These characteristics are first evaluated using a tissue paper testing machine by the manufacturers. Post that, it reaches the market and the consumers for use.

Types Of Tissue Paper

If you are planning a startup in the tissue paper industry, you must know the various types/applications of a tissue paper:

  • Hygiene Tissue Paper
  • Facial Tissues
  • Toilet Paper
  • Table Napkins
  • Tissues for Wrapping
  • Paper Towels
  • Packaging Industry
  • Repair of Roads

Procedure For Starting Tissue Paper Manufacturing Business

Now that you know the various types/applications of tissue paper, it’s time to understand the tissue paper manufacturing process. The following are the main steps involved.

  1. Obtaining License and Registration

The first step is obtaining required licenses from Government authorities and making several registrations, such as:

  • Registration of Business with Registrar Of Companies India
  • Trade License from Local municipal authorities
  • No objection certificate from Pollution Control Board
  • Factory license
  • Registration of Udyog Adhaar MSME
  • GST Registration
  • IEC number (required only for export of tissue papers)
  1. Arranging Captial

For the tissue paper manufacturing business, generally, two types of capital are required. First is the working capital which includes the cost of raw materials, wages, transportation, etc. And second is the fixed cost which includes the cost of area and machinery.

Apply for a loan from a bank or a financial institution to bear the project cost. To apply for a loan, the owner’s credibility and at least 25% investment as the owner’s allocation on the total cost is needed. It is therefore important to prepare a business plan or report prior to starting the business.

Also, hire a group of not more than 6 professionally trained people, who are going to operate the paper-making machinery.

  1. Setting Up Machine & Manufacturing Unit

Then comes the step of setting up the complete manufacturing unit and installing machines. Keep note of the following things in this step:

  • Choose the right location for manufacturing.
  • Availability of skilled labor, transportation, electricity, water, and other resources in the chosen location.
  • Prefer to choose the manufacturing location in the industrial area.
  • Choose the right machinery and in the necessary number.
  • Determine the storage of raw materials and finished products.
  • Plan the admin space in the manufacturing unit.
  • Plan necessary security and safety measures.
  1. Manufacturing Process

The tissue paper manufacturing process includes the following steps:

  • Create a paper pulp using recycled lignocellulose fibrous materials. Mix fiber in the wood pulp, bleach it, and then give it a wash.
  • Place the fiber in a mixing vessel, and then add dye to give color (mostly white) to it.
  • Now, press the tissue to remove excess moisture.
  • Process the pulp through a dryer, containing steam. This will dry the pulp and scrape the tissue to the required thickness. Check the thickness with a paper thickness micrometer gauge.
  • Finally, cut the long-sized paper into the size required for different purposes.
